2025 Fifth Year Options: What are they, what are they for, and who is going to get one? — Today, in order to spread information and incite discussion I wanted to talk a little bit about an aspect of football team management that doesn't come up a lot: The fifth year option.
The fifth year option is a feature of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (the CBA) that is struck between the NFL, its teams, and the companies that surround the NFL (broadcasting, NFL players association sponsors etc). The CBA determines a lot of things, including a structure for how rookie draft picks are allo
[Taylor] Felix Anudike-Uzomah, the Chiefs' 1st-round pick in 2023, will be placed on injured reserve with a right strained hamstring, per the team. His season ends before the preseason finale.
[Matt Derrick] Andy Reid says DE Felix Anudike-Uzomah is expected to land on injured reserve today with a hamstring injury. If so, that would end his season.

Text from the linked Kelce article about his podium appearance:
On Wednesday, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce met with local reporters for the first time since his decision to return to the league for his 13th season. Kelce’s current contract runs through the 2025 season, which has long been perceived as a logical end point.
However, the 35-year-old held back from confirming the grand finale.

Players with an asterisk left the team after winning that Super Bowl but returned and are currently on their roster.

Chiefs' defense grades against the Broncos by PFF
[Nate Taylor] At this point, with the Chiefs prioritizing the development of Felix Anudike-Uzomah & the return of Charles Omenihu, one has to think Joshua Uche has become the break-in-case-of-emergency option for the defensive line.
Superbowl #5 to Tie 49ers & Cowboys? A Three-peat? Why Stop There? — The Chiefs still have one of the five youngest rosters in the NFL. The following players have never had a day in their pro career where they weren't winning the AFC West, AFC Championship, and the Superbowl since being drafted:
Trent McDuffie, George Karlaftis, Jaylen Watson, Bryan Cook, Isaiah Pacheco, Leo Chenal, Josh Williams, Skyy Moore, Chamarri Conner, Rashee Rice, Wanya Morris, Felix Anudike-Uzomah, among others.

FAU’s pass rush is really terrible — Only two 2023 first rounders are in 3rd axiom: Lukas Van Ness & FAU.
King Felix progress — Felix Anudike-Uzomah was on the field for 56% of the def snaps against the Raiders. How do we think he has progressed? I had heard he was struggling against the run but Felix was generally off the field on 3rd and long.

[Nick Jacobs] Here is a look at the #Chiefs full snap counts for the 2024 preseason.
Compiled notes from training camp - 08/13 — Only three days of training camp remain this year. Today was another full pads practice, and I expect at least tomorrow will be as well.
- Joe Thuney, Derrick Nnadi, and Wanya Morris were all in full pads at practice this morning. Thuney is expected by KC to start in the season opener, but the Chiefs will closely monitor his progress in the coming weeks to decide if they feel hes ready to return to action. His long term health isn't worth risking at the beginning of the season if hes not 100%.
Compiled notes from training camp - 08/05 — Back to full pads today. Camp starting to get a bit chippy.
- Nick Bolton remained out of practice with an elbow injury. KC is still optimistic about him playing in the season opener.
- Chris Jones tweaked his shoulder in practice today. Not expected to be anything major, but he might not finish out camp this year.
- Kadarius Toney and Justin Watson were both back at camp today. Watson worked near 100% with the first team, and Toney just worked out a bit before riding the cart back to the loc
Compiled notes from training camp - 07/28 — - Marquise Brown and Clyde Edwards-Helaire were both out with an illness today. Unconfirmed what the illness is, but possible Worthy's earlier case of strep throat is making the rounds.
- Nazeeh Johnson was out with a knee/hamstring injury. It is the same leg he tore his ACL in last year. He's had a good camp so far. I would think he makes the team if he can get healthy for the start of the season, but there might be some hesitancy from coaches with his injury history. Andy Reid sounded optimis
Compiled notes from the first training camp day with full pads - 07/26 — First day of camp with full pads in the books. Lots to cover.
- Xavier Worthy was back in practice after battling strep throat this week. Nazeeh Johnson was also suited up after a knee injury scare yesterday. Both Johnson and Worthy starting with first teams. Justin Wastson was at practice, but he will be given some time to recover from his foot injury. Belief is he'll be good to close out training camp. Justin Reid was also at practice, but he still out with an injury. Belief is still that he'

In the second half of this annual series, we’re switching over to the defensive side of the ball and outlining young players around the NFL, who I expect to make a leap in 2024.
For the purposes of this exercise, considering it’s tough to set the guidelines for what counts as an actual “breakout”. Therefore, I relied mostly on statistical metrics that exclude players from this ca
What are your expectations for Felix Anudike-Uzomah? — Basically spent his rookie season as a redshirt 21 year old. I'm really hoping he makes big progress in 2024. That would be a big lift to the team. In the NFL the 2nd year is the most important year. Most guys if they are going to pan out make the jump year 2. Sometimes it happens year 1 or year 3+ For the majority of players though you find out what you have in year 2. Big year for FAU coming up.

The difference is I’m the drafting! — Since SB 50 Denver has the second lowest wins in the league with 52, only the Browns, and Commanders are worse with 51. KC is first with 97.
A big part is the drafting and resources that go into it. Here’s a look at the difference between
Denver’s first and second round picks vs KCs. Along with the pick number.

1st Round rookie pre-season stats all in one place — Hey gang, if you're interested in checking out the basic box score stats for 1st-round rookies, I consolidated this for week 1. I don't have listed some top rookie performances that weren't drafted in round one. If you know of any great performances or stat lines from some rookies drafted outside of round one, please drop them in the comments for others to see (such as Bears rookie, Tyrique Stevenson with 7 tackles and a PD). Any other commentary we can see in the stats would be good as well, f
First Round Recruiting Map — I always love looking at college recruiting maps and looking through which state/states are producing the most talent. So I thought it might be cool to make a very rough version of that using the first round of the NFL draft!

Predictions for the Rest of the Season and Mid Season Awards — **2023 NFL Draft (Hopefully Josh Allen Injury is not too serious for this to work):**
1. Carolina Panthers- Bryce Young, QB, Alabama. The Panthers are obviously tanking. I can imagine the current GM getting fired and whoever the next GM is actually listen to Brian Burns trade offers. If that's the case the only things this team has going for it long term are DJ Moore, Ikem Ekwonu, Derrick Brown, and the secondary. The Panthers start the rebuild at QB and Moore and Ekwonu are solid building bloc
