I'm going to go over the various weaknesses in the roster and coaching staff, as well as addressing cap issues and potential moves for next year, including how likely they are given who our decision makers are.
# Let's start with the offense:
**QB:** ***Patrick Mahomes*** is the best quarterback in the league, full stop.
[Charles Goldman] Chiefs STC Dave Toub says the motto down the stretch for his unit is, "Have fun making plays."
[Goldman] Dave Toub says that it'll be a minute before RB Dameon Pierce will be ready to play: "It's just a matter of getting ready and learning for offense... for me, he could probably play, but he's just not there yet." — Also:
Pete Sweeney: Dave Toub says that Dameon Pierce has been working at kick return behind the scenes.
ST coach Dave Toub has some words for Donald Trump
Reid, Veach, and Spagnuolo aren't going anywhere. — At least not yet. Reid, Veach, and Spagnuolo have earned the benefit of the doubt. But those frogs should be getting a little warmer in the pot. A lot of changes CAN be made elsewhere, though. Matt Nagy can kick rocks. Veach has invested far too much in the offense for it to look like the 2017 team: talented, but undisciplined, plays are too slow, the run game is inexplicably abandoned, and it runs into a wall against a good defense or when the game actually matters. I don't care who calls what,

- Xavier Worthy missed his third day of training camp today as he continues to recover from strep throat. Probably more precautionary to prevent illness spreading throughout the players. Hopefully he is ready to go Friday.
- Justin Watson was carted to the locker room today after injuring his left foot in practice. Trainers looked at him for a while on the sideline. He rode in the front of the c
Dave Toub: Nikko Remigio is Chiefs' top kick returner & will compete with Mecole Hardman for a roster spot
[Sweeney] The #Chiefs are serious about having Justin Reid or Louis Rees-Zammit kick off (they were working there today). Special teams coordinator Dave Toub said that as they watched the XFL, they noticed the kicker involved in 25-40% of tackles. They don't want that for Harrison Butker.
[Chiefs] We have signed Assistant Head Coach and Special Teams Coordinator Dave Toub to a contract extension.
Shout Out Dave Toub — You know he is working with scraps on the special team roster, and always has those guys going 100% Yea sometimes he gives our return guys too much freedom to choose to attempt a return but don’t think he gets enough flowers for how he gets our special teams to step up when needed.

[Goldman] #Chiefs STC Dave Toub thinks that Harrison Butker is right up there with #Ravens K Justin Tucker as the best in the NFL.
[Adam Schefter] ICYMI: Chiefs’ special teams coach Dave Toub revealed this week that, with the team’s regular punter Tommy Townsend dealing with a left knee injury, Kansas City’s backup punter is … Patrick Mahomes. For those who need proof (📹 @Chiefs):
"We had a plan — and believe it or not, 15's our backup punter." — Apparently Patrick Mahomes is our backup punter, what can't this guy do?
Via Dave Toub, "He can do it, he shows me all the time"
With Tommy hurting his knee Sunday (although he did finish the game) this would be pretty interesting to see. Obviously I do hope Tommy is healthy for Sunday, he's a beast.

Chiefs Dave Toub reveals the complexity of returning punts
Starting CBs Watson and Williams are expected to “heavily” play special teams this season.
Thoughts On Dave Toub — 2023 was the first year I can remember that had me questioning Dave Toub and his effectiveness as the Special Teams Coordinator. Between Butker’s rough season, questions about holding kicks, and Moore’s struggles as a punt returner, it made me realize how privileged we have been to have pretty solid Special Teams play for most of his tenure. Tommy Townsend was about the only consistent bright spot the entire season. Then once we got to the playoffs it was like everything turned around. Butker lo

Houston Texans doing Houston Texan things — Houston is already doing their "rebuild" wrong and its super obvious how. The first thing they need to ask is who would want to coach the Texans, and why would they want to coach the Texans?
I ask this in all seriousness because there aren't that many reasons for someone to take that job. I know it is 1 out of 32 HC positions in the NFL so thats a reason. Another reason is they have the 2nd pick in the draft so a new HC could get a new young QB to develop. Aside from those 2 things, what is

The head coaching matchup in Super Bowl 55 will feature a former Philadelphia NFL head coach (Andy Reid) against a former Philadelphia college football head coach (Bruce Arians) — Both head coaches in the Super Bowl 55 Chiefs/Buccaneers matchup have strong, past ties to Philadelphia. Andy Reid was the Philadelphia Eagles head coach from 1999 to 2012, while Bruce Arians was the Temple Owls head coach from 1983 to 1988.
Additionally, various Chiefs assistant coaches (including Dave Toub, Eric Bieniemy, and Steve Spagnuolo, among other coaches) either played for or coached under Reid in Philadelphia. Likewise, various Bucs assistant coaches (including Todd Bowles, Kevin R

What coordinators right now do you believe will make great head coaches? — I just have this hunch that Dave Toub is going to be the next John Harbaugh. Andy Reid assistants have a track record of being good head coaches, and Toub has statistically been one of the greatest ST coaches in the SB era. Hell, even with all the ST mistakes the Chiefs made this past year, their unit still finished 2nd in DVOA and 1st in PFF rankings.
I'm sure there are some coordinators or assistants who are great head coaches in the making that the league hasn't figured out yet (there's a de
Why hasn't Dave Toub been hired as a head coach yet? — Andy Reid assistants have a history of being good head coaches, and Toub has expressed desire in becoming a head coach for some time now. Joe Judge just became a HC so being a ST coordinator shouldn't hurt him. And if Toub is running your STs, you're almost always going to have a good ST unit.
I'd love to see the Lions hire him next year after Patricia gets fired, keep Bevell, and hire any DC to run the show (Patricia has held that defense back so much despite a decent amount of talent that any

Who are some early picks for Head Coaching candidates for next season? — Last year, we had 8 NFL coaches get fired, bringing in 7 brand new HC’s and Bruce Arians, who had retired after the 2017 season. Just IMO, here’s 8 guys to keep on your radar
1. Eric Bieniemy - KC’s Offensive Coordinator: I think many thought he would get a job last year, but he decided to stay on as KC’s offensive coordinator. After 2 years of being one of the key figures on KC’s high powered offense, I have to imagine owners are going to go after him even harder.

And Michael Douglas' president snaps back: "People don't
