The Bulls owner wants to keep Billy Donovan as head coach no matter who the next GM is. > The Chicago Bulls cleaned out their front office on Monday by firing top basketball executives Arturas Karnisovas and Marc Eversley. Now, they begin the process of replacing them. The job holds real appeal. The Bulls could have two first-round picks in this year's draft. Donovan, who won consecutive national titles at Florida in 2006 and 2007, remains open to the possibility, according to multiple industry sources, but is far from a slam dunk to take the job. One major sticking point has been Donovan’s desire to remain with Chicago through the end of the NBA regular season on April 12 — five days after the transfer portal opens
I built a possession-economics model that values every NBA action by what it actually creates or destroys. Here's what it reveals that box scores can't. — Instead of arbitrary stat weights, every action is valued by its actual effect on points and possessions. A steal is worth +2.30 (you took a possession AND got a fast break). A turnover costs -1.95. An offensive rebound is worth +1.34 (a whole new possession). The model also layers in NBA hustle tracking and defensive tracking data that traditional models ignore.
Here's what it reveals that box scores don't:

How the 65-game rule would've affected historical All-NBA teams (Al Horford becomes 4x All-NBA) — I've gone through every All-NBA voting result from 1988-89 to 2022-23. 1988-89 was the first season with a 3rd All-NBA team, while 2022-23 was the last season before the 65-game rule was instated.
For each of these All-NBA teams, I identified which players would not meet the 65-game threshold (or a prorated version of the threshold for shortened seasons) and made my best guess based on the voting results on who would've replaced their spots. Players were selected by position in 2022-23 and earl

A New Simple Box Score Metric — # Introducing Linear Box Plus Minus (LBPM)
Hello all! Today I’m introducing **Linear Box Plus Minus (LBPM)**.
LBPM is a metric designed to estimate a player’s **RAPM** using only box score statistics. It takes heavy inspiration from Basketball-Reference’s **Box Plus Minus (BPM)** model (write-up here), and is trained on the RAPM dataset described in this write-up.
# Summary
LBPM is a **season-level linear regression model** that takes in **27 box score–based inputs** and outputs a **per-m
List of every NBA coach by career win percentage — Becoming an NBA coach is no easy feat. We've all heard about how difficult it is to make it into the NBA. But it is much harder to become an NBA head coach. There are approximately **450 players** in the league each year. There are **only 30 head coaching spots** available each year. The number is actually much less when you consider NBA staples like Erik Spoelstra, Steve Kerr and Joe Mazzulla are unlikely to ever get moved out of their role as the head coach of their respective teams.

First and foremost, while Luka and LeBron don’t have the exact same offensive style, when it comes to offensive load over the last 30 years, LeBron is probably the closest match. And when you look at usage rate stats, Luka

A Break-Down of League-Wide Cap-Space and FA Value v2.0 — Recently, there have been a lot of posts and topics here regarding free agents and speculation about who we can and will sign. But, what has been bugging me about a lot of the discussions is that there is a distinct lack of context. Without the context, it's hard to really say who we can reasonably sign and for how much. Topics range from people assuming we'd only sign 2 or 3 role-players to every ideal role-player on the market. With free agents, what determines their value is not their dem
